Another Reason to Love Carl

Episode Commentary: Larry Miller Hair System

If you consider yourself a decent pop culture guru, you should know who Larry Miller is. Appearing on tons of television shows and in a myriad of films over the past 25 years, the dude is hilarious.

Little known fact: he was also pretty close to being cast as George Costanza on “Seinfeld” before a dude with the name of Jason Alexander came along.

Nevertheless, his appearance on this episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force is entertaining, but this week is all about Carl.

Getting an opportunity to look in the mirror for once and come to some type of conclusion about the way he’s wasted away his life- on bad food, television, music, prostitutes and drugs, Carl sticks to his guns and ends up destroying a part of himself in the process.

That kind of faith Carl has, to be so unshakingly content with his situation in life, in spite of not having a damn thing to be happy about, is a rare commodity today. It proves, if nothing else, that Carl is either the coolest character in the Adult Swim Universe or one the most insane.

Either way, you’ll be laughing throughout the entire episode.

Charmingly disgusting and vile, yet remarkably witty and endearing, Carl pulls off the impossible here and manages to sink himself even lower, and laugh about it the entire time.

The first episode in quite some time to be all about the Aqua Teen’s favorite neighbor, it was well worth the wait this season is easily one of the best of its kind. A testament to the writing ability of Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro, “Larry Miller Hair System” proves that this duo can do things in 13 minutes that other writers could only dream of.

Nonetheless, with the conclusion of this episode, the same question that has been on the mind of thousands of the shows’ fans manages to pop up once again.

When will Carl get his own show?
