A Prostitute With Morals

Episode Commentary: “Tucson Is the Gateway to Dick or This Is Not Sexy”

Ray Drecker has the “tool” to be the greatest male gigolo the world has ever seen.

So why can’t he just shut his brain off and turn his member on?

At first, many that watched “Hung” wanted it to be a sexy diversion from “True Blood,” but make no mistake about it, it’s not and never will be. Much like “Bored to Death,” it’s a witty show that has quietly carved its own niche on HBO.

Forcing you to use your head, rather than your body each episode, it’s a tease to see a slew of beautiful women on the screen and watch Drecker not know what to do with all of them.

Nonetheless, it’s far from a horrible viewing experience- it’s just not as steamy physically as you’d expect.

There is plenty of drama to be had though.

This is mainly shown through the relationship between Drecker and his ex-wife, which continues to heat up. By the end of the episode, you’re left wanting him to escape this life of money and sex and have the stability he never wanted to lose in the first place.

After the last episode ended, you’d think Drecker was working towards accomplishing that goal, but that’s anything but the case. Forced again to do the right thing for everyone else, Drecker almost sabotages his relationship with his best client [perfectly showing, much like last season that he does not have the heart for prostitution] and now has a co-worker wondering how he’s paying for buses for his bankrupt High School baseball team.

However, rather than get a thank you or a hand shake for his care and concern, all he gets for his trouble is a new bed to sleep in.

Literally.

We wish it could have been figuratively.

If that wasn’t enough, his two pimps can’t get along either. This element of the story is quickly becoming an interesting one as Lenore and Tanya are both hilarious on-screen together and provide a nice break in between the main drama with Ray.

Because of all this going on, this episode of “Hung” hits the spot and has us waiting eagerly to see what happens next.

Again it ma not be as sexy as we’d like, but it’s still more than entertaining.
