Hurts So Good?

Episode Commentary: “It Hurts Me Too”

Just when you thought that this week’s episode of “True Blood” was a stinker, things pick up for the first time this season in one of the most outrageous sex scenes in the history of cable sitcoms.

While many critics and fans were dismayed by the sexual encounter between Bill Compton and his vampire-maker Loretta, saying it was borderline rape, it was easily the most memorable moment in the series this season.

Many men have problems looking their mate in the eye and wish they could do what Compton did. Perhaps, in the end, it’s envy, rather than disgust after all.

And truth be told, no one heard Loretta say no while in bed with Compton. Being undead, when she was getting her head spun around her neck in one of the craziest variations of the the doggy-style position ever witnessed, she looked like she was having a pretty damn good time.

And so were viewers.

Embracing its “adult” roots, this show has to be raunchy, bloody and gritty in order to maintain its cool.
Make no mistake about it, “True Blood” is not “Twilight” and to a lesser extent, “Vampire Diaries.” If that sentiment wasn’t proven this week to its viewer base, then nothing else was.

The “good” vampire amongst a lot of true blood suckers, Compton proved tigers never lose their stripes in a huge swerve that the show badly needed. With the continuing story lines with Lafayette, Jason, Eric, Tera and even Terry beginning to pick up steam as well, the show is beginning to position itself to pick up some serious steam.

However, many viewers would argue that the show never took this long in previous years to get deep into the action.

What exactly does this mean for the series? It could be something as small as the story-telling devices are beginning to change, or in a worst case scenario, these devices are beginning to become completely different, resulting in a different type of show all together.

Either way, it’s kind of hard to argue with the anticipation of seeing what little Sookie Stackhouse is going to think when she finds out about all of this nonsense with what she believes to be her soon to be husband.
