Daddy Powers?

After playing around with Vida [played by Ana de la Reguera] through the first two episodes, Kenny [Danny McBride], for some crazy reason, is ready to commit. Does this mean that his feelings for April have been pushed to the side? With Stevie back in the picture as his sidekick and his baseball comeback in the picture well, can Kenny handle the stress of a relationship?

The bigger question here is, why would he even try? He’s having his cake, eating it and then going back for seconds right now, building his career back up and sleeping with Vida. Why would he want to ruin that?

Because he’s Kenny Powers, that’s why. He’s also incapable of being content with any situation. He always wants more and more he will get. It’s the way his world turns and rather than question it at this point, we should just accept it and watch the train wreck.

Speaking of watching, he shots of Vida “playing” with Kenny are some of the hottest of the season, perhaps even the show. Even if you think her character lacks depth and is just a distraction, it’s obvious the camera loves her. The discussion between Kenny and Sebastian in regards to Vida is also one to remember, as it is one that every man has at one point in his life. It’s also one that could come back to haunt Kenny if he doesn’t play his cards right.

While Vida does, for some crazy reason, seem to dig the loudmouth pitcher, the question remains if she has that kind of faith in him. Regardless, this situation is extremely different from the one’s Kenny got himself in last season, proving that the writing continues to grow. With a character as charismatic as Powers, it would be too easy for them to rely on ridiculous stories that don’t have a point or advance the real story.

However, between his new love interest, Stevie’s return and trying to save his career, this character is learning more and more about himself every week. As a result, the hilarity continues, but it’s not the same two-note song [but an excellent one nonetheless] that got the show through its first season.
