That Bridge Has an STD
Episode Commentary: “The Gowanus Canal Has Gonorrhea!”
For anyone that was wondering what happened to Jonathan’s case involving the sex dungeon a few episodes back, you have your answer this week. Getting kidnapped by the owners of the dungeon, played by the hilarious duo of Jim Norton and Domenick Lombardozzi, Jonathan is forced to ask George for help.
Enlisting the help of the still heart-broken Ray, George goes to Howard Baker [played by Patton Oswalt] for artillery to take out the kidnappers.
The latter interaction between Jonathan and his captives is easily the best part of the show. While it’s right in line with the hipster comedic angle the show is known for, there’s a bit of a heartfelt moment when Lombardozzi throws a cliché Jonathan’s way that may awaken him from his relationship problems. Norton’s role is also charming, as his own problems with females seem to bring him closer to Jonathan. Add in a few bags of vaporized pot, a few shots at the New Yorker, an Oscar Wilde reference and more drama between Jonathan and his now ex-Stella- you have a pretty entertaining episode this week.
However, things do get semi-serious after George finds out he’s got prostate cancer. What could the future hold for his character? At the very least, it should provide more comedy, as the situation has given George a new love interest and an opportunity to get out of nearly every situation he doesn’t want to be in.
With much of the focus on George, the next few episodes should delve deeper into both Jonathan and Ray’s relationships, making for some interesting storylines. Because of that, the series continues to satisfy its audience, even if it’s still is a niche one.
