MEET MONA, MERCURY RECORDS’ NEW SIGNING

(New York, NY) Nashville 4-piece Mona has released their newest song to the US, “Listen To Your Love,” to all digital retailers via ZionNoiz/Mercury Records. For America, this is the first offering from their forthcoming debut album- out this summer. Check out the video for the song HERE! The guys are also releasing a special 7” of “Listen to Your Love” for Record Store Day on ZionNoiz/Mercury Records on April 16 – more info HERE. Upon the release of the song in the UK last year on their own label, Zion Noiz Recordings, via Rough Trade shops and independent stores, the accolades from critics and fans has been extraordinary.

After playing a run of sold out shows, Mona won the coveted title of MTV UK’s Brand New for 2011; a fan based voting contest that sees Mona taking over where Justin Bieber reigned in 2010. This side of the Atlantic saw Mona perform a handful of raucous rock shows in January, which The New York Times called, “romantic 1950’s rock with a big appetite.”

The band played Los Angeles and San Francisco shows to audiences for the first time this month, they are making their way to SXSW in March, and then they will head to Brooklyn for an April 21st show at The Knitting Factory.

As lead singer Nick Brown puts it, “we’re rock revivalists, in the sense that we like the golden age of the United States – the James Dean, Marilyn Monroe type stuff.” This iconography and idealism, he says, informed the writing of “Listen To Your Love” and the reasons why it became their first single. They have captured the attention of major media outlets including BBC Radio, who named the band in their coveted Sound of 2011 poll, MTV, NME, Clash Magazine and Q, all of which named Mona among the top new bands to watch in 2011. Enthralled with their sound, and their devout southern church upbringing story, music critics and fans are addicted to the explosive and confident cool that Mona brings to the stage and their songs. They even nabbed a prestigious spot on the UK’s Later with Jools Holland last month- a rare task for a band who hasn’t yet released their debut LP. Watch the performance HERE.

Mona makes arm-pumping, vein-pulsing, knee-shaking, sing-your-lungs-out music – each note is a reminder that true rock & roll is not going anywhere.

What the UK press is saying:

“…it appears that in Mona we may have found a big-sounding, big hearted rock’n’roll band to believe in again.” – NME

“Motor-mouthed 50’s throwbacks…” – Q Magazine

“In a time when few bands have very little to say, it’s refreshing to finally hear a fearless star in waiting telling us how it is and more importantly actually having the epic tunes to back it up” – Clash
