Bad First Impression

After the first 20 minutes of RAW this week, if there were another wrestling show on television, many hardcore fans would have changed the channel.

After the finale of “Tough Enough” ran a few minutes over, the WWE decided to have what felt like half it’s RAW roster in the ring for meaningless promo and meandering. 20 minutes later, a tag team main event between Alex Riley, John Cena, The Miz and R-Truth was announced.

The only thing that came out of this was a hilarious spot by R-Truth, who continues to grow into a great upper-mid-card heel.

Aside from that, this segment was a big waste of time.

The rest of the show was nothing special either, as the majority of it was promos and short matches, with no new storylines pushed.

Overall, if you were going to miss an episode of RAW, this was the episode to do it.

Matches:

Santino Marella vs. Mike McGillicutty: The opening match that didn’t help the lull after the 20-minute in-ring nonsense to start the show. Quick and void of any drama, Marella got the win with the Cobra. What a joke.

Beth Phoenix and Kelly Kelly vs. The Bella Twins:
A much better match than the opener, with a much better pace. While it was rushed, the divas entertained and Phoenix delivered her Glam Slam for the win.

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk: The “re-visited” rivalry is a waste of time on RAW. No doubt that these two can have a great pay-per-view match, but for the sake of RAW, this angle is a complete dud. While the match these two had wasn’t horrible either, most of it was spent on the mat void of high-impact offense. It was surprising the match went more than five minutes and even more surprising, things did pick up towards the end. However, a pair of sloppy moves [a powerslam by Punk and a swinging DDT by Mysterio] took the air out of it. Ironically, it was the best match of the night.

Zack Ryder vs. Kofi Kingston: A match that did nothing for Ryder or his cult fan-base, as he jobbed out to Kingston. Rather than push him, he’s fodder in the Dolph Ziggler/Kingston angle. To think for a second the WWE would allow the two of these guys to have a decent match would be ridiculous.

Jack Swagger vs. Booker T: A match that will be remembered more for Evan Bourne’s shooting star splash afterward than anything done in the ring during the actual match. Booker T ultimately got the win via-count out in an otherwise time-filler of a match.

Alex Riley and John Cena vs. The Miz and R-Truth, w/ Stone Cold Steve Austin as guest referee: Riley took a beating throughout the match, as R-Truth and The Miz delivered an assortment of offense. Cena got the hot tag and cleaned house. Add in a Stunner from Austin and an Attitude Adjustment from Cena and the match was over. However, the anonymous General manager not only reversed the decision, he appointed Austin the guest general manager next week for a special three-hour RAW.
