Straight From Troma: BEFORE “BOOK OF MORMON” THERE WAS “CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL”

Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s outrageous blockbuster musical “The Book Of Mormon” dominated the Tonys two weeks ago with nine victories, including in the categories for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. If you can’t get tickets to the show, you can celebrate by watching Parker and Stone’s first musical, “Cannibal! The Musical,” the one that started it all!

Long before “South Park,” Trey Parker and Matt Stone produced “Cannibal: The Musical!” Troma Entertainment was the only film company that had the insight to take these young lads under its wing. Following its release, “Cannibal” went on to become a hit on home video, and a live stage show phenomenon that played around the country in over 20 states.

“Cannibal” is now available on DVD, as well as Hulu, Amazon Streaming, Netflix, PlayStation and Xbox, so if you haven’t seen it, now’s the time! Celebrate Parker and Stone’s Broadway victory and see the film that kicked it all off!

Established in 1974 by Yale friends Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, Troma Entertainment is one of the longest running independent movie studios in American history and one of the best-known names in the industry. World famous for movie classics like Kaufman’s The Toxic Avenger, Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, Class of Nuke’em High, Mother’s Day, and Tromeo and Juliet, Troma’s seminal films are now being remade as big budget mainstream productions by the likes of Brett Ratner, Richard Saperstein, Akiva Goldsman, and Steve Pink. Among today’s stars whose early work can be found in Troma’s 800+ film library are Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Jenna Fischer, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Costner, Fergie, Vincent D’Onofrio and Samuel L. Jackson.
