Jack White Produces ‘Insane’ Collaboration

We have no words.

Wait, I take it back—we have three words: “What the hell?”

Jack White, formerly of the White Stripes, just threw the music world a curveball, with a bit of help from Mozart and Insane Clown Posse.

I’m not kidding, guys.

Sure, White and ICP both hail from Detroit, but could you ever imagine them collaborating? Well, now you don’t have to imagine it, because it’s real—Jack White has produced a track titled “Leck Mich Im Arsch,” which heavily samples a little-known 1782 piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart called “Leck Mich Im Arsch.” The title literally translates to “Lick me in the arse.” Well, that’s nifty…

You probably know Insane Clown Posse as the duo who calls their following “Juggalos.” They wear clown face paint and rap about murdering people with hatchets, and recently, they announced they’re actually singing about God and religion. They also don’t understand how magnets work.

At any rate, this new record is neither preachy nor, well, very good (Sorry, Jack). Even with Nashville rock group JEFF the Brotherhood playing a pretty rocking melody over the classical piece, the entire situation just comes off as strange.

The press release for this odd combination explains that the 2011 “Leck Mich Im Arsch” combines “Mozart’s melody and lyrics sung in operatic German with ICP’s poignant lyrical addition in English and Jeff the B’s monster-riffs.” Again, what the hell?

While the 7-inch single and iTunes download of “Leck Mich Im Arsch” are out on September 13 with limited vinyl copies sold at the September 17 MI Fest in Brooklyn, Mich., the track is available to stream online thanks to Third Man Records (and thanks to SPIN Magazine for the heads up). The teaser video below describes the track as “The music collaboration you’ve all been waiting for, 230 years in the making.” Well, I wasn’t waiting for this, but it’s… something, alright.
