The Walking Dead Coverage: Abortion Pills and Zombies in Barns

Episode Commentary: Secrets

After discovering a barn full of zombies on last week’s episode of “The Walking Dead,” this week brings the same old boring character developments and predictable plot line that had you scratching your head in frustration. This episode has Glenn knowing way too much, involving not only the Zombies in the barn, but Laurie’s  pregnancy situation.

Overall, it was an episode that will have you pulling your hair out while you witness an annoying Glenn try hard to keep a secret, but eventually failing to do so.

The first half of this episode shows Rick, Shane , Andrea and a healthy Carl wasting away more ammo than Lara Craft  in “Tomb Raider.”  Not only is learning target practice a waste of time and bullets, the relationship that Shane and Andrea develop will frustrate the audience even more, because it will show how selfish the two of them actually are.

The only positive moments in this episode was Dale’s interaction with Shane, where he tells him he knows what kind of man he is and how he saw him pointing his gun at Rick back in season one.  Also, Maggie’s conversation with Glenn after  almost having a near death experience with a walker, she tells him that he is basically a puppet, to everyone in his group, and that he is a leader but doesn’t see it.

The second half of the episode showed Andrea and Shane on the search for Sophia out in the suburbs, while being cornered by walkers.  This is where the episode becomes far fetched because Shane is killing zombies left and right, while Andrea couldn’t  kill a zombie for her life as her gun kept jamming. Then, out of nowhere ,she turns into Sarah Connor and kills them off with no problem.

The camera zooming in on her while giving a slow motion effect was a bit cheesy to say the least.

The climax of the episode was not a surprise at all as Laurie finally admits to Rick that she is pregnant and that she also slept with Shane. While Rick was angry at first, he was not surprised at all regarding Laurie and Shane. Although this was a big plot line of the season, it did not seem to make a huge impact.

While we find out that the Walkers in the barn are family members of Herschel including his wife and step son, the episode lacked the  suspense it was meant to have. It seems that this show has run out of steam, and has become more and more repetitive. The search for Sophia has grown boring and the killing of  a few walkers and Glenn’s keeping keeps a secret hasn’t spiced things up enough. Andrea continuing to be clumsy and a burden to the rest of the group is plain annoying and Rick pulling off his best Jack Shepard impression from “Lost” with that ridiculous stubble that lasted throughout most of this  season has grown tiresome.

The bottom line is less action, poor plot lines equals boring television.
