TNA Impact Wrestling Coverage: Knockouts in Bathing Suits and Routine Matches

After the first segment of Impact Wrestling, changing the channel felt like an impulse. Showing Robert Roode’s family and the beginning of an angle that is supposed to delve into how he isn’t there for his family, you have to wonder if this is the best Bruce Pritchard can do?

If so, TNA is screwed.

Sure, the opening promo only took eight minutes to develop and the show had a much better pace, but there is nothing hot within this company right now.

While there are angles in every championship division, a first for the company in quite some time, this show isn’t getting better fast enough.

Aside from the Knockouts cleaning cars in bathing suits, there wasn’t much of a reason to tune in this week.

Matches:

Tag Team #1 Contenders Match: Mexican America vs. Ink Inc vs. The Pope and Devon: The Pope was in this match for most of it and went through some of his routine offense. Once Jessie Neal tagged himself in and tried to catch Devon off his guard, his former mentor was ahead of the game and dodged the spear attempt and saw Neal hit Hernandez with the move. Soon after, Devon hit the front spinebuster for the win.

Street Fight: ODB vs. Mickie James: ODB and James worked a tough match. ODB’s powerbomb on the outside, a counter from a James headscissors, was pretty cool. Once the match went into the stands and backstage, things got hardcore as ODB used a trashcan and cookie sheets to get on the offensive. Once the action got back to the ring however, James got the win after she caught ODB with a standing roundhouse kick while she had a steel chair next to her face.

World Television Champion Robbie E. vs. Rob Van Dam: A decent match that saw E sell every RVD maneuver he performed. He had chances of his own due to his heel tactics, but interference and an Angels Wings from Chris Daniels on RVD enabled Robbie E to retain his title.

World Heavyweight Champion Robert Roode vs. AJ Styles vs. Jeff Hardy: A relatively quiet triple threat match with three of the biggest stars in the company. Even though they had 25 minutes to play with, the commercial break in the middle of the bout and sluggish pace hurt the encounter. Once Styles and Hardy started fighting, the match got better and adopted a quicker pace, but overall, this wasn’t anything to go crazy about. Just when Styles and Hardy started hitting high impact moves, Jeff Jarrett interfered and stopped Hardy from hitting the Swanton. Now knocked off the turnbuckle, Hardy was easy pickings for Roode, who covered him for the win.

After the match, Sting announced that Jarrett would fight Hardy in a Steel Cage match at Final Resolution.
