Review Fix Exclusive: Q & A with Singer/Actor Yatharth Ratnum

Review chats with Indian teenage singing sensation Yatharth Ratnum about his upcoming EP, his musical influences, success on the Indian talent show “Lil Champs” and his hopes for the future.

A heart throb in India, Ratnum is ready to take the United States by Storm.

Review Fix: Can you tell us about the about the writing process of “I Love You?”

Yatharth Ratnum: To tell the truth, “I Love You” is the first song written by me. At the time I wrote it, I actually knew nothing about songwriting. But I had this beautiful girl in my school whom I loved like mad! We became friends and eventually I expressed my feelings I had for her. After which I got to know she was already with another guy. But knowing about her guy didn’t make any difference to my love for her. It was her birthday and I had to gift something, so to make it priceless for her, I wrote my heart out in this song, “I Love You.”

Review Fix: How difficult was it to write?

Ratnum: It wasn’t difficult at all, I wrote it like in 2-3 hours. It was really easy ‘cuz at that point of time, I was going through the same feelings “I Love You” is written in. I just had to write my heart out. And that’s what I do in every song I write.

Review Fix: Adele had a ton of success writing about a lost love. Are you hoping to have similar success? Do you think your experiences are alike?

Ratnum: I think Adele is very good at writing the songs she writes and I really admire her. Our experiences might be alike. I think my songs are cool enough to go out there and mesmerize people and make them happy. So fingers crossed for that. I hope people will like me and my music.

Review Fix: Tell us the last five songs you listened to on your iPod.

Ratnum: “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” “Whenever, Wherever,” “Billie Jean,” “In The End” and “That’s the way”- Santana.

Review Fix: Who are some of your musical influences?

Ratnum: Guns n Roses, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Shakira, Bee Gees, Linkin Park, Santana, Agnetha Faltskog. I just love good music and good musicians.

Review Fix: What are your long term goals in music?

Ratnum: It really excites me to see so many varieties of music in the world. I want to learn different styles of music. And yes, I want to be a great pop-star .

Review Fix: How do you think the early part of your career and your success on Lil’ Champs will help you as you move forward?

Ratnum: Yes, Lil’ Champs was a great journey. And as I have been moving forward, it has always helped me. Step by step, I guess. Everything is going to work.

Review Fix: What do you want people to remember you for?

Ratnum: I want people to love me, and give me the chance to love them back. I want them to remember me as a good person- a cool pop-star and an Insane Lover.

Review Fix: How are you different from other singers?

Ratnum: Listen to my songs and you’ll know.

Review Fix: How do you want people to feel when they listen to your album?

Ratnum: My album is me spreading love, fun and joy to the people out there. Every song in my album is very different. Each one has its beauty. I want people to feel that in the album. And I want them to feel good when listening to my songs, enjoy life and spread love.
