In March 2011, two visionary doctors from the Texas Heart Institute successfully replaced a dying man’s heart with a ‘continuous flow’ device, proving that life was possible without a heartbeat.
Jeremiah Zagar’s “Heart Stops Beating†is an exceptional short film at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival that will leave the audience filled with amazement.
This short film shows two doctors, Billy Cohn and Bud Frazier, who operate on a patient with a bad heart. Both doctors replace the heart with a rotor-driven device that produces continuous blood flow and works like a garden hose. While you think that it is impossible for the patient to live without a heart you will be shocked that this procedure does work.
Both Doctor Cohn and Frazier tested their device on 50 cows. Although they did not hear a heartbeat, the cows did live and walked around.
“Heart Stops Beating†is a brilliant short film that is not only a feel good movie, but will provide plenty of inspiration. This short film is a must watch and is one of the best shorts at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. For the access and interviews alone, Zagar should be commended, but to able to tell such a full story, in such a small amount of time, Zagar deserves an opportunity to direct much bigger projects.
What was great to watch was the fact that pictures were taken of the patient after the surgery. While he was in recovery, he’s shown reading a book and in good spirits. They say science a big part of advancements in the world; however what both Doctor Cohn and Frazier have done shows that genius and wit have their places in this world as well.
