Review Fix Exclusive: Q & A With Singer/Songwriter Sarah McGuinness

Review Fix chats with Singer/Songwriter Sarah McGuinness about life after doing the music for the Eddie Izzard documentary “Believe” and about headlining the 2012 Halyon Unplugged Festival.

Review Fix: How does it feel to be headlining the 2012 Halyon Unplugged Festival?

Sarah McGuinness: It’s an absolute thrill, especially in the company of such well-known and talented Irish musicians.

Review Fix: How were you approached to participate?

McGuinness: It came up as part of a discussion with old friends and colleagues who were concerned about the sudden deterioration of the castle that was a symbol of the area and of our childhood, and decided they wanted to do something about it.

Review Fix: Have you decided on your set?

McGuinness: I’m going to do a mixture of old songs, acoustic favorites like ‘No Tears’, and my latest songs including some from the new musical. I also have a surprise at the end where my fellow performers are going to join me onstage.

Review Fix: You spent some time recording the music for the Eddie Izzard Documentary. How does it feel to be back on stage?

McGuinness: I’ve missed it. It’s great to be in the studio where precision is the thing, but there’s nothing like the unpredictability and excitement of live gigs. I can’t wait.

Review Fix: Do you have a preference between working with music for film or simply on your own?

McGuinness: I don’t. They both fulfill different needs, creatively. I feel lucky to be able finally to give time to each of them.

Review Fix: How will your appearance at this festival help your career moving forward?

McGuinness: I believe it’s very important to keep putting your stuff out there in front of a live audience so you can see what’s working and what’s not. You can’t fake it so it really helps when you go back into the studio to produce the next tracks.

Review Fix: How do you want the audience to feel after you’ve performed?

McGuinness: Like they’ve had a genuine, truthful experience. Moved, hopefully,

Review Fix: How would you describe one of your live performances?

McGuinness: A cathartic experience – for me at least. I’m singing my life.
