New Jersey progressive thrashers Secto Zer0′s new track, “Shift” is interesting, so it certainly does live up to its name. The song is structured a bit differently from songs on the EP they released roughly a year ago. It’s still strange and charming, but the band seems to have gotten groovier – which is a really nice touch.
There is a lot of Pantera going on, more than the Voivod influence they had on their previous release. Spizzirro’s vocals and drums have improved and it sounds like he’s beginning to tap into his hidden talent with his seemingly newfound vocal style. David Torres’ bass work is just as cool as it was last time Sector Zer0 laid something down. Brian Schermicide from the unapoligetic Egokill lends his voice to the background which is always cool to hear.
The guitar work was handled by Kevin Izquierdo of fellow New Jersey metallers Killed the Fixtion, which gives it a really good sound. All in all it is a bit different than what we’re used to but it’s still good and if it is a preview of the album, Sector Zer0 seems to not have anything to worry about.
