Single Review: Tom Keifer: The Flower Song

Cinderella’s Tom Keifer may not be the first person you think of when you hear an acoustic ballad, but “Flower Song” is a different animal for the hardened rock veteran.

With a smooth, flowing hook and Keifer’s passionate, yet grizzled howling, the song has a bluesy, almost Van Morrison feel. But the addition of a talented female backup singer (who harmonizes well with Keifer) makes it more of a solid rock track.

Although the lyrics are good enough that anyone with chops could make this one a hit, Keifer’s voice suits it perfectly. With the focus of the track on experience, someone who’s traveled the highways, byways and back roads of life and music the likes of Keifer sells the song as much as his guitar work does.

It may be a different type of sound Cinderella fans are used to hearing from Keifer, but it’s clear that the former ’80s heart throb still has talent to spare. It’s not even a reach to consider that this may be some of his best work to date.
