HTC One Review: Great for Gaming

In an age where smart phones are top priority in the tech world, The HTC One is one of the top smart phones out there. Sporting an aluminum back and a 4.7 inch LCD screen, The One is arguably the nicest looking smartphone on the market.

Here are some of the pros and cons of The HTC One.

Pros:

When it comes to looks, the HTC one definitely has that with a 4.7 inch LCD display and an aluminum build that feels great in the hand. This phone also sports a 4 ultra pixel camera with an interesting feature called HTC Zoe. It features a slide show that involves pictures you took at that specific moment in time. With Zoe you have the option to play music while the slideshow takes place. This camera option is cool and convenient if you are at a party or out in about with family and friends. This camera also has other features that include night view panorama shot and so on. What makes the HTC one standout are its front facing speakers called boom sound. This feature is excellent when it comes to listening to music, watching videos, and even gaming.

The One has the best sounding speakers on a smart phone, period. This phone is also pretty easy to use while it sports sense UI which HTC is known for. One major feature in the software is blink feed which includes different feeds such as news, and social media like twitter and Facebook all on one homepage. This feature can be convenient for most or annoying to others. Overall it’s a feature that makes it easy for users to read the latest news and social media comments. The HTC does run very smoothly and thus far has shown no lag what so ever. For consumers who are thinking about purchasing this phone, that is a major plus. Along with the HTC One’s fluidity, it is also very fast. Finally the One does have great storage space coming in both a 32 and 64 GB model. If you don’t mind an SD card the memory on this phone should be more an enough in terms of storing music, photos, and apps.

Cons:

Although there are many things that are good about The HTC One,it is not perfect and has its flaws such as other smart phones out there. While the One has an incredible look, build , and feel, the button placement is a highly week aspect. The power button is inconveniently located on the top left corner of the phone and is flat. This means that you have to either stretch out your finger and get a feel for the button or look at the button and give it a good push. That alone could drive you nuts because there is a bit of a discomforting feel in achieving the simplest task on a smartphone, turning it on. Another flaw is the volume rocker which can be highly frustrating to command at times.

For example, if you are listening to music, you do not get a feel for the volume rocker because it has a similar texture to the phone itself, making it harder to distinguish the difference between the aluminum body and the volume button. Also the volume button is one piece instead of two buttons that determine high and low volume. The volume button on the One can be very frustrating to command at times as you have to push down a bit hard for volume command. Most importantly the battery life on this phone is mediocre at best giving you about seven to eight hours of battery at best before putting it on the charger. While this has minimal battery life a big flaw would be that it does not have a remove able battery. This could be inconvenient for people who go out and have no outlet to charge their phone.

The One also does not have the option for expandable memory, meaning no SD card. This can be no big deal if you don’t download as many apps, music, movies or take many pictures seeing that 32 GB of storage can be more than enough memory for the average consumer. However if you do the opposite this can be a problem for you. The camera on this phone is not the best either. taking pictures during the day is a major weak point for this phone as the quality is fuzzy making the quality mediocre at best. The video camera is not to ride home about either. While there are plenty of features the video quality is a bit weak.

The multitasking on this phone can be a bit annoying at times as there is no option to kill your apps with one push of a button. Instead by tapping the home button two times you are brought to a screen that has all of your running apps and windows. While your apps and previous tasks are open you have to swipe them individually to close them. The features on this pone are very limited and Sense UI can get boring really fast, meaning customizing your phone to your liking can get repetitive. Finally the physical home buttons which are placed at the bottom of the phone can be unresponsive at times, meaning you have to push the home button several times in order for it to function properly.

Final Thoughts:

Overall, The HTC One is a solid smart phone with limited features and a simple interface. It is a phone that is excellent for gaming, watching videos and listening to music. However it’s camera does not take great pictures during the day and its physical buttons are poorly built and placed. The phone does run smooth however and has tremendous speed and performance. This phone comes down to whether the features whether it be hardware and software are to your liking.
