terraNOVA Collective and Producing Artistic Director Jennifer Conley Darling are currently accepting online applications for the 2014-15 soloNOVA ARTS. Entering its eleventh season, soloNOVA ARTS began as the soloNOVA Arts Festival in 2004, as a vehicle to showcase innovative solo artists representing various artistic disciplines, cultures and perspectives. The soloNOVA Arts Festival was the longest-running solo performance festival in New York City, curated to showcase the best in puppetry, dance, magic, physical theatre, multi-character monologues, multi-media, and other innovative forms of solo storytelling. soloNOVA ARTS will continue the creative tradition through a re-envisioned program providing greater support to solo artists through development workshops and productions.

Applications are being accepted through Monday, March 10th. Solo performers or theatre artists with solo shows at any stage of development are invited to apply to the process. Applicants are to choose between two options: soloNOVA ARTS Workshops for solo shows in any stage of development to be given a workshopped stage reading in June 2014; and soloNOVA ARTS Productions for production-ready solo shows to be presented in late 2014 / early 2015.

Conley Darling is proud to shepherd this new phase for soloNOVA. She remarks, “since 2004, terraNOVA Collective has championed and showcased solo performers and theatre artists through our soloNOVA Arts Festival. We have worked with over 300 solo performers, both from New York City and beyond. Through the new soloNOVA ARTS format, we present work outside of the formal festival structure, giving each production a presentation according to its stage of development. We will work closely with each performer and their artistic team in creating the best possible showcase for their particular piece, and will continue providing marketing, promotion, and technical support. We are looking forward to giving our audience a new experience and method of presentation. So far this season, we have presented 5 new plays as part of soloNOVA ARTS, and look forward to increasing that number in the 2014-15 season.”

This season, terraNOVA Collective has presented 5 new plays as part of soloNOVA ARTS. These were: Woman of Leisure and Panic, written and performed by Charlotte Bydwell as part of the New York International Fringe Festival (Time Out New YorkÂ’s critics pick); Sexless In The Boroughs written and performed by Colleen OÂ’Connor, directed by Kyle Metzger as a co-production with The Glass Eye; Will Work For written and performed by Dacyl Acevedo, directed by Jo Cattell; 10 Days written and performed by Vanessa Hidary, directed by Kimberly Faith Hickman; and Just South of Renown written and performed by Jason Downs, directed by Tom Butler. These productions showcased work in development, world premieres, and revivals of previous soloNOVA Arts Festival participants.
