Quest for Infamy: Initial Thoughts

Old school adventuring has never been so boring.

Despite some impressive sketches, an appropriate soundtrack and a few mildly funny jokes, “Quest for Infamy” is a rather dull affair. Its mostly corny dialogue, crappy voice actors and repulsive battle system constantly disrupt any pleasure the game has to offer.

“Quest for Infamy” is a point and click adventure role-playing game that places players in the boots of William Roehm, a laid back, smart mouthed man running away from his past. He finds himself in Volksville, a small burg that appears to have a lot going on behind the scenes.

The game’s prologue is where players will get to choose one of three classes: Brigand, Sorcerer or Rogue. In order to do so the player will need to complete an assignment from a specific Volksville resident. Depending on which you choose, a new storyline will open up. After exploring the town a bit and conversing with several folks, it’ll become clear who will drive you towards your desired class.

There isn’t any combat for the first half hour or so, but once it’s introduced, it’s a huge disappointment. The battle system is a simple turn based operation that fails to maintain any level of engagement. At least in the beginning, there are only three attacks: Stab, Hack, Slash; there’s also a Block action. Basically, you have about three seconds to choose an attack before your turn is skipped. Certain enemies are dealt different damage depending on the type of attack — for example, wolves are more susceptible to slashing.

However, character animations during battles are clumsy and lack any enthusiasm. Fighting feels more like a burden than anything else and when encountering an enemy you’ll probably want nothing more than to return to your mediocre adventuring.
