‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Leaves Weekend Competition Shell-shocked

With the record-breaking domestic opening weekend for “Guardian of the Galaxy” last weekend, many thought it was a foregone conclusion that the film was destined to repeat—well, many were wrong.

Estimates for the Michael Bay produced “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot have the action film taking in an impressive $64. 5-$65+ million for the weekend.

The reboot has been shredded to pieces by critics receiving an abysmal 20% on Rotten Tomatoes—however, it’s a hit with moviegoers, more specifically kids, the film has a B on Cinemascore.

If the film does take $65 million for the weekend it’ll be another win for the summer box office, which has been in a historically bad slump until “Guardians of the Galaxy” came out.
