What Brock Lesnar’s WWE Championship Reign Means for WWE’s Future

In 2012, when Brock Lesnar returned to WWE after a long departure and brief tenure as UFC Champion, the world was abound with questions.

Why bring back Lesnar? What about the young talent? What does it all mean?
With Lesnar’s 2014 SummerSlam decimation of John Cena and subsequent championship victory, we finally have the answers.
The WWE is preparing for a change that is a nod to the past.

It’s no secret that Lesnar is a part-timer. It’s also no secret that now that the subscription based Network is international, WWE is pushing harder than ever.

Think back to the NWA and the territorial days of Wrestling.

The NWA Champion traveled frequently, defending his title in different areas on a regular basis. Due to his schedule, he could not defend the championship at every event – giving the smaller titles more time to pick up the slack at the events he could not appear. This created new stars and brightened the future of the industry.

WWE has the same ultimatum with Lesnar’s situation. Because of his schedule Lesnar cannot make regular appearances- making his select ones more special. This enhances the value of the championship as the WWE Universe will now see less of it as well.
Lesnar is a proven draw. Now it’s time for the rest of the roster to pick up the slack due to his limited appearances.
SummerSlam 2014 was a precursor to what the WWE can become – delivering one of the best events in years with every talent on the card utilized to their full potential. Every match was solid.

Even the lumberjacks were memorable.

If every match and every talent worth investing in is built up properly in Lesnar’s absence, the business could boom to greater heights than it has ever imagined.

“The Next Big Thing” could become the next big salvation.
