Dumb and Dumber To Review: You’ll Laugh, But You’ve Laughed Like This Before

It’s been 20 years since we seen two goof balls Harry Dunn (Daniels) and Lloyd Christmas(Carrey) in action.

Now that they’re back, they seem more dumber now then they did back then.

And if you don’t quite get it, that’s a great thing.

More bizarre and just as hilarious as ever, “Dumb and Dumber To” is a low-brow comedy fan’s dream come true.

Regardless, there was plenty of skepticism on the release of this film. It’s not very common that a sequel comes out 20 years later, so it is fair that movie goers and critics alike would question whether or not it would or even could draw any laughs. The truth is that “Dumb and Dumber to” does draw plenty of chuckles from fart jokes, bush club membership and the compulsive door bell ring. The humor is definitely there and there were several rekindled quotes from the original movie that will put a smile on your face.

Even if it was the second most annoying sound in the world.

This time around, however, there’s no crazy plot or hit men. Harry finds finds out he has a daughter and he and Lloyd decide to go find her. Just like in the first film, Harry and Lloyd go on another adventurous road trip in a hearse along with a 10-second drive in the famous sheep dog van from the first film. We even see Harry’s old apartment and with a new roommate dressed up in a Meth outfit cooking the Blue Sky meth- a hilarious homage to “Breaking Bad.” We even see a grown up Billy who has a collection of birds. If you thought Lloyd was cruel to him in the first movie, wait till you see what he does to poor Billy this time around.

Once you thought Harry and Lloyd could not get any dumber, they continue to prove that they should both have their pictures in the dictionary under the word idiot. One hilarious scene involves Harry visiting his parents, who are clearly Asian. We discover that Harry is adopted and it comes as a shock to Harry. Lloyd’s reaction to Harry’s parents speaking Asian is simply priceless and is obviously one of the funniest parts of the movie.

Sarcastically speaking, nothing gets by these two nitwits.

By the end of the film, you sort of come to a realization- it’s a nice thing to see Harry and Lloyd be complete complete goofballs, even if they are past their prime. They definitely have not changed. The climax of this film was similar to the one of the original and might have been the highlight of the film. Unfortunately for Harry and Lloyd, it was another glorious opportunity ruined as they let their childish ways get in the way. The way the scene was delivered was sure genius. It just goes to show that even adults will never grow up, especially Harry and Lloyd.

That’s not to say the laughs are legendary ones. While “Dumb and Dumber To” is a laugh out loud riot, it doesn’t come close to the original movie. Although there were several lines and scenes that were like a revisitation to the first movie, the film felt a bit too repetitive. Sure, it’s definitely worth the watch and does a great job keeping the audience entertained, but it’s nothing you haven’t experienced before.
