Review Fix Exclusive: DJ Malone Talks Influences and Future

Review Fix chats with rapper and MC DJ Malone, who discusses his influences, creative style and goals for the future. Creator, lover of music and podcaster, Malone wears several different hats in the music game.

Review Fix: What inspires you to perform?

DJ Malone: To show people, that no matter what in life, or what anybody saids about you, you can really go out there and make something happen. I love to make people smile and happy, and I can do that by when ever I DJ or do any of my songs, then so be it.

Review Fix: Make makes you different from other artists?

Malone: I would say, that I can be myself. I do different types of sounds, so one day you might hear me doing a neo-soul track, another day you might hear me doing trap or drill. When I make beats, I go off of feeling as well. If I am going though something bad, my production might be a little more darker, vs. to when I am may be tipsy and feeling kinda good.

Review Fix: What did you grow up listening to? How has it affected your creativity?

Malone: I grew up listening to all kinds of music, from Frank Sinatra, NAS, Rakim, CREED, NICKLEBACK, Eiffel 65. Jay-Z. Ja Rule, Mary J. The list goes on and on, but how I take from them is, I really feel where they are coming from in their work.

Review Fix: What do you do when you’re not performing?

Malone: Making beats, DJ-ing somewhere, shooting a music video, I do a lot of things. I just got put on for a TV broadcast, can’t really say to much about it, but be on the lookout. Also I am on flex103fm, beg radio, urban indie radio. I also do a podcast called chi-town urban radio on slamir.

Review Fix: Tell us about a song of yours that you feel connects the most to your audience. What is it about. How was it written?

Malone: I would say “Derriere,” which is a good song, but I would had to say. My new song “BBT” ( bad boy tendencies) it’s about a lot girls, just don’t want a good dude.. it’s gets boring after a while, a lot of time girls want to have fun, they want a man with an edge to them, they don’t want a bad guy…. but they want to have that feeling. so “BBT” is about how, a guy can be a “good guy” but had a bad boy type feel to him..

Review Fix: What is your creative process like?

Malone: I would say, life, I feel sometimes i have three eyes. If you follow me, I see a lot of good in things and a lot of bad in things. I think just coming up, seeing a lot of different stuff, you take all that in, and you want to tell me what you saw, and how you feel in your own words, how I go about making a beat or song, goes off feeling.

Review Fix: How do you want to affect your audience?

Malone: I want to know that, it’s ok to be your self, in a world full of fakes, you might go though things, but i bet you there are a lot more people are going though same thing, I want to bring back, good music, not just for people in 20s and young but for everyone.
