Roberto Orci Drops Out of ‘Star Trek 3’

It looks like the Starship Enterprise is losing it’s captain.

It was announced today that Roberto Orci will no longer be directing the third installment in the “Star Trek” franchise—this according to a report by Deadline.

Although Orci has had no previous directing experience, he has cut his teeth screenwriting and producing some of the biggest blockbusters of the past decade including “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

Exact details surrounding Orci’s departure were absent from the original report—however, Badass Digest has reported the reason for the split is Paramount clashed with Orci over “the direction of the screenplay.”

One name that appears to be making the rounds as a replacement is Edgar Wright who is on the studio’s short list to take the helm. Wright recently departed Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man” due to creative differences and is set to write/direct “Baby Driver,” which is apart of a two-picture deal with Working Title.
