New York Shakespeare Exchange Announces Two ShakesBEER Pub Crawls for June

New York Shakespeare Exchange, creator of the viral smash The Sonnet Project, is excited to announce the first two ShakesBEER pub crawls of 2015 on Saturday, June 6 and Saturday, June 13.

The event kicks off at Albion Bar (575 Second Avenue, at 32nd Street) before moving on to Rose Hill Tavern (337 Third Avenue, at 25th Street), Tavern on Third (380 Third Avenue, at 27th Street), and ending at Tonic East (411 Third Avenue, at 29th street). Admission is $45, which includes four drink tickets redeemable for beer, wine and select cocktails at the participating bars.

Check-in begins at 2:30 PM at Albion Bar for the 3 PM kick off. Tickets are available at www.shakespeareexchange.org or at the door. Advance booking is strongly recommended.

ShakesBEER, NYC’s Original Shakespearean Pub Crawl, is a three-hour pub crawl that features plenty of Bard to go with your beer (or wine or cocktails). The crawl is divided between four bars, with Shakespearian scenes breaking out at each location. The actors are shoulder-to-shoulder with the audience, drawing them in and making this experience about as “up-close and personal” as Shakespeare gets.

Shakespeare’s heated passions are the focus of these start-of-summer crawls, featuring scenes from As You Like It, Love’s Labors Lost, and Romeo & Juliet. The event culminates in a mash-up of Shakespeare’s great scenes about spurned love.

The featured actors include Vince Gatton, Brian Cheng, Adam Donshik, Jeff Hathcoat, Kim Krane, Kelli Ruttle, and Amy Jo Jackson. The scenes are directed by Cristina Lundy and Kristi Dana.

New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX) offers theatrical programming that explores what happens when contemporary culture is infused with Shakespearean poetry and themes in unexpected ways. Providing fresh points of entry to the work so that modern audiences will be exposed to the intrinsic power of Shakespeare, NYSX’s goal is to encourage appreciation of classical theater and to expand the reach of the art form within new and existing audiences.
