Warriors of Wrestling Extreme Heat Recap: Riley Retains, Spud Surprises

Staten Island’s premier promotion Warriors of Wrestling returned Saturday June 6 with its latest event “Extreme Heat,” hosted at the Fun Station, on Victory Blvd. Looking to upstage last month’s show, this month’s card featured one of the hottest New York indie-wrestlers Rude Boy Riley, fresh off his WOW title win, as well as current TNA superstar Rockstar Spud. The well-balanced action-packed event once again left the Fun Station crowd in awe with highlights, incredible in-ring storytelling and surprises.

Matches:

Logan Black vs. Joey Ace vs. Anthony Gangone vs. Marq Quen vs. Jason Nevins (No Limits Title match): The event opened with the No Limit title being defended by Joey Ace in a five-way match. It was a fast paced and full of high flying action, which was a jolt of energy to start the show and get the crowd going. Ace in RVD fashion put on another impressive athletic showing, but in a good way didn’t overshadow the other four competitors. There were plenty of highlights from Black, Gangone, Nevins and Quen who bears athletic similarity to Shelton Benjamin. There were a number of moment’s where it looked as if the title would change hands, but Ace was able to pick up the via Savage Elbow drop.

TJ Marconi vs Abdul Nasir w/ Harley: This was a slower paced match to cool the crowd down, but a very solid one. Marconi was able to get the crowd behind him and fully invested into the match as soon as he entered from behind the curtain. Early on Nasir wanted no part of the 6-foot 6-inch 300 pound monster, by retreating to the outside after a few short exchanges of lock ups. Midway through, Nasir would get the upper hand after a failed Undertaker Old School attempt by Marconi. Nasir would work on the leg of Marconi for a while until Marconi used the energy of the crowd chanting to get himself enough momentum for a comeback. Marconi was able to get the victory by nailing Nasir with a Big Boot.

Chris Steeler vs. Michael Massacre (Street Fight): With the crowd ready for Massacre to catch a beating from Steeler after his months of repeated disrespect, this match was everything they waited for. Steeler ambushed Massacre during his entrance and didn’t stop his assault there. In what was a pure slugfest of a match, Steeler beat Massacre around the entire ring before finally tossing him to the inside. Steeler came prepared for a fight which Massacre wasn’t able to withstand with limited offense. The match ended with Steeler giving Massacre a Rock Bottom from the top rope through a table and pinning him for the win.

WOW Heavyweight Champion: Rude Boy Riley vs John Cannon w/Abdul Nasir: Riley’s very first WOW Heavyweight title defense was a good one. Cannon told Riley before the match started that he would cheat in every form of fashion to win, which he acted on by using a ton of old school heel tactic’s to get as many advantages as possible. Though Cannon cheated through most of the match, he had Riley well scouted by matching each one of Riley’s moves with a counter. Towards the end, Riley built enough momentum to go on a run and hit Cannon with the Lights Out. As he was pinning Cannon, Nasir pulled Cannon out. Due to the interference, plus the rest of the appearance of the Hostile Collective (Darius Carter, Harley, and Naphtali Rodriguez) at ringside, the ref decided to call the match. Once the Hostile Collective surrounded the ring, TJ Marconi, Benjamin Quinn, and Jessie Brooks came out to brawl and defend Riley from the ambush attack. After the short brawl, ringside was fully cleared once the returning Jasin Karloff entered with a chair. Marconi,

Marconi, Quinn and Brooks exited the ring as Karloff decided to stick around to celebrate with Riley, but Karloff unexpectedly hit Riley with a Super Kick to the ribs and a Suplex onto a chair, leaving the Champion in the center of the ring in agonizing pain.

Jessie Brooks vs. Darius Carter: The match a lot of people have been waiting to see for months now finally took place. After months of sneak attacks by Carter on Brooks and tag team matches, the fans got to see Brooks and Carter one on one. Carter came out the aggressor in this match and really took it to Brooks. Brooks was able to get some offense in, but Carter had most of the control. Frustrated with Brooks’ resilience, Carter decided to get a chair to inflict damaged to Brooks with, which the ref wouldn’t have any of. While arguing with the ref over his attempt at using the chair, Brooks managed to roll up Carter in a School Boy pin for the three count.

EYFBO vs. Style & Finesse: Another athletic showing by both teams in this match as EYFBO looked to win their titles back. EYFBO came out hot after Mike Draztic rocked both member’s of S&F with a suicide drop kick who were standing on the outside posing with their belts before the match. Draztic and Ortiz kept the assault going for a while until S&F were eventually able to isolate Ortiz and get the upper hand. Towards the end of the match Draztic and Ortiz were able to mount a comeback, but just as they were about to hit their tag team finishing maneuver, Ortiz was pushed from the top rope to the outside. This allowed one member of S&F to get the Roll-up pin with a handful of tights to get the victory.

Nephtali Rodriguez vs. Benjamin Quinn: Quinn tried to take it to Rodriguez early on, but the effort was in vain since Rodriguez was able to win via pinfall with some interference by the rest of the Hostile Collective. Brooks and Marconi came out again for a save, but the Five-on-Two numbers game played a huge role at this point. The Hostile Collective destroyed Marconi, Quinn and Brooks, leaving all three battered and injured in the ring continuing this ongoing feud.

Rockstar Spud vs. J George vs. Smiley: The main event featured TNA superstar Rockstar Spud against the highly entertaining Smiley and the charismatic J George. Watching Smiley perform is like using Spider-Man in any Marvel vs. Capcom game. Spidey uses every part of the environment to his advantage, much like Smiley who used every ring rope and turnbuckle for his speedy onslaught. George once again brought a new arsenal of attack to the table by matching Smiley’s cruiserweight-like moveset, all while keeping Spud from getting involved by tossing him to the outside every chance he could. Most of the match was Smiley against George until late when Spud was able to finally get involved. Spud took out George momentarily after Hulking up then nailed Smiley with the Underdog. Spud tried to follow up the Underdog with a pin, but George snuck in at the last second to toss out Spud once again and pin Smiley for the win.
