WWE RAW Coverage: A Night of Firsts?

This week’s Monday Night RAW was billed as a night of firsts, but it was ultimately a slow-paced mess that did little to keep viewers entertained.

More like a place-setting for Summerslam, the WWE continued to billed what will be a massive card for the event by beginning feuds or developing the larger ones further.

Away from the solid in-ring action of the divas and two good matches to end the show, there was little shock and even less sizzle. Add in the fact that there was no Undertaker or Brock Lesnar and RAW was surprisingly flat.

Matches:

Dean Ambrose vs. The Big Show: Ambrose took a pair of Chokeslams, a Super Kick and a Knockout Punch before he was counted out. After the match, Ambrose got up and Show went for the Spear on the outside and went through the barricade.

Adrian Neville vs. Fandango: Neville got the quick win with the Red Arrow, in spite of some early strikes and submissions from Fandango.

NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks w/Tamina Snuka and Naomi vs. Paige w/Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch: A solid back and forth encounter that got even spicier after Snuka, Naomi, Flair and Lynch were all sent to the back. Although Paige was in control for moments, Banks got the win with the Bank Statement.

For a WWE Tag Team Title Shot: Lucha Dragons: Kalisto and Sin Cara vs, Los Matadores: Fernando and Diego w/El Torito: An enjoyable match that was all about Kalisto’s high-flying offense and of course, more drama from the New Day. While the New Day and the Tag Team Champions Darren Young and Titus O’Neil talked smack on the outside, Kalisto got the pin with the Hurricanrana.

WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella and Alicia Fox w/Brie Bella vs. Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair w/Paige: A short encounter that saw Fox and Bella sell for Flair and Lynch, who got the win with the Arm-Bar.

Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens: This match was just starting to get interesting before Sheamus hit Orton with the Brogue Kick to get it thrown out. Cesar’s interference led to more drama and ended with Owns hitting the Pop-up Powerbomb on the Swiss Superman.

United States Champion John Cena vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins: An entertaining back and forth that saw Rollins bloody and break Cena’s nose with a Knee (his nose was a disaster the rest of the match). Cena nearly won with the Attitude Adjustment, but Rollins stayed alive and fought back with a Superplex/Michinoku Driver combination. After Rollins missed the Phoenix 450, Cena locked in the STF for the win.
