“The Kalamazoo†opens with an almost unrecognizable Ezra Goldman, who is on his deathbed, screaming for Ray. This episode has new characters including billionaire Malcolm Finney (Mcshane), his daughter Paige Finney and Father Thomas Romero (Orser). Each of these characters serves a purpose and could be key players for this season.
This season jumps months ahead and we see a different Ray Donovan. Granted, he still has the stubble, but much less distinguished. He is alone and angry. He’s not answering his phone calls; he is drinking more and is more ruthless and violent than we’ve seen him before. Unfortunately, the episode does lose a key and likeable character in Ezra Goldman, played by the ever so talented Elliot Gould. After Ray finds out about Ezra’s passing, his life becomes even darker.
