New Marvel Comic Stars Native American Hero Red Wolf

Red Wolf, Marvel’s Native American superhero, will star in a new comic book series launching in December, the publisher revealed in a press release.

“Black Widow” and “Punisher” writer Nathan Edmondson will collaborate with “Empire of the Dead” artist Dalibor Talajić and cover artist Jeffrey Veregge.

Veregge is a member of an Indian tribe from Kingston, W.A., and he will provide consultation when it comes to the comic’s characterization and design.

“There’s not a character like Red Wolf out there right now,” Veregge told Mashable. “As a native, I’m really excited to see that he can do things, he can figure out things and stand with Captain America, and hold his own in this universe. That’s what’s awesome about it: You have all these characters of different nationalities and ethnicities, but it’s not all about their culture. It’s about them being a hero.”

Red Wolf —  “using all his wits, and both his fists” — will try to stop corrupt organizations from taking over the American Southwest.
“There’s something about that harsh terrain of the American Southwest that requires an adaptable, thoughtful, resourceful hero, and that’s Red Wolf all over,” series editor Jacob Thomas said in a statement. “He doesn’t have amped up strength or tech, he’s got quick wits, hard fists and an unshakeable sense of justice. Underestimate him at your own peril.
