Review Fix: What was the inspiration for the show?

Chris Baker: I go through phases around elections or big political issues where I watch cable news every single day and over the summer was one of those times. Despite the anchors’ and guests’ consummate professionalism, I kept noticing how many uncomfortable moments there were. These small moments when someone would get a fact wrong or stare down the barrel of the lens only to find out they needed to be looking at a different camera. These little things that had nothing to do with the news really made me laugh. That’s how it started.

Review Fix: What TV shows are you most influenced by?

Baker: I’ve memorized nearly every episode of Friends and Seinfeld so those are pretty ingrained. I probably watched both of them every night growing up so a lot of my comedic sensibility has stemmed from those shows. Over the years I’ve also drawn lots of inspiration from Veep and 30 Rock as well.

Review Fix: How do you want the show to affect people?

Baker: Honestly I just want people to laugh. The episodes aren’t long and the stories are simple because it’s all about the laugh for me. If someone else is laughing at the same things that I find funny, then it’s a win for the show.

Review Fix: Who do you think will enjoy it the most?

Baker: I’ve gotten messages from very different people saying they love it so I hope everyone! And my parents. They love it when I pretend to snort cocaine on screen.

Review Fix: Bottom line, why should someone watch the show?

Baker: Because it’s funny and well made. I wouldn’t put my name on something I wasn’t deeply proud of.

Review Fix: What are your goals for the show?

Baker: To find a real journey for this character. He’s got some fatal flaws and there are so many situations I could put him in so I’m excited to take him places.
