Review Fix Exclusive: Rising Dark’s Michael Crimson Talks Goals for 2016

Review Fix chats with Rising Dark’s Michael Crimson. who discusses the band’s origin and their goals for 2016. Breaking down their creative process as well, Crimson gives Review Fix an inside look at what makes the band a special one.

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

Michael Crimson: The band got together in the most spontaneous way you can imagine. and Balzael and I at the time both 14 years old kids, started playing some tunes together, covering bands such as Metallica, AC/DC, Judas Priest and so on. I couldn’t sing, we couldn’t play on time but we sure had fun. Years passed by, we hopefully got a little bit better at playing, and now here we are, still having fun.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Crimson: Being the one writing most part of the songs, I try to follow a “less is better” approach. Many, maybe too many bands nowadays have a really “technical showoff” approach to songwriting, and I tend to find them pretty boring onstage. I like to go with in your face metal riffs and catchy but hard-hitting vocal lines. One thing we started doing on this record is to chop off a lot of parts which sounded superfluous, to shorten the songs and to avoid boring the listener.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Crimson: One standout song that comes to my mind is “Armageddon,” from our first album “Apocalyptic.” I think it sums up the “Catchy-but-hard-hitting” thing I was trying to explain in the previous question. Regarding how it was written, it is the song that taught me, and I think all of us, that less is better. If we should record it nowadays we would surely chop off many excessive parts. But people go wild when they hear it at our gigs so we’re pretty happy anyway.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2016?

Crimson: Our goals for 2016 are to promote our new album “A World In Ruin” with live shows, live shows, live shows and, did I say it? Live shows. I think that’s the best way to introduce ourselves to the metal fans in Europe, and it’s the main goal of any band.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Crimson: We want people that happen to see us live to have fun. Personally, I never wanted to be the best guitar player, the best singer, the fastest sweep picker or anything of this kind. I started playing and singing with the attitude and desire to give people good times. Whether it is a smile on their face or the bruises they get in the mosh pit, if we make people have fun and go wild, we are proud of ourselves.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Crimson: Rising Dark are crushing down like a hailstorm on all of you metalheads. Don’t forget to give a listen to our new album A World In Ruin. I sincerely hope you enjoy it, that would make all of us so proud.
