Review Fix chats with actress Tamsen McDonough who discusses season Two of ‘The Killjoys’ on SyFy. Playing the voice of Lucy on the show, McDonough discusses what makes the show so special and that she’d actually still watch it if she wasn’t one of the coolest characters on it.

Review Fix: For those that don’t know, what is The Killjoys?

Tamsen McDonough: The Killjoys is a comedic and dramatic action TV series set in space. It follows a trio of bounty hunters, known as Killjoys, who chase deadly warrants through the Quad, a distant area that is near the start of a violent class war among multiple planets. And their mode of transportation, you ask? It’s a beautiful and sassy AI spaceship known as Lucy, who I voice. She’s been called the fouth Killjoy and plays favourites… no bias but I think she’s fabulous!

Review Fix: How did you get involved with the show?

McDonough: I was in Vancouver when I was called by my Toronto agent to read for the role of Lucy. It’s so rare that actors get the chance to play a character like her so I was more than a little excited.

Review Fix: What attracted you to your character the most?

McDonough: I love her dry wit and the fact that’s unapologetic in her like and dislike of various characters. And I’m convinced she’s like the family pet who wants to be human.

Review Fix: Lucy has become a bit of a cult fav amongst fans, why do you think that is?

McDonough: I think we all love Lucy because of her relationships with her humans. Again with the pet metaphor, she’s like the golden retriever who’s brimming with life and loyalty, and trying to give his humans love in any way he can. The writers have also brilliantly captured some vulnerability within her, which is so lovely.

Review Fix: Without giving anything away, what can fans expect this season?

McDonough: They’re going to see a different side of Lucy as the writers have had even more fun with her this season. There’s a great surprise coming up that I’m super excited about.

Review Fix: Bottom line, why should someone watch the show?

McDonough: Even if I wasn’t on Killjoys, it would still be one of my favourite shows as it has all the things I love: action, adventure, drama, comedy, and amazing characters all wrapped up in a wonderful scifi bundle (that includes awesome special FX and a kick-ass soundtrack).

Review Fix: What else are you up to?

McDonough: I’m working with my co-stars/co-producers on a comedic web series about modern manners. We’re currently editing the first very silly but hopefully provocative episode. It should be a lot of fun and something that everyone can relate to, and add to in future episodes.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

McDonough: I just want to thank the fans so very much for continuing to enjoy and support the show. Through my recent experiences with Killjoys, I’ve come to learn that one of the best things about the scifi genre is its fun, creative and loyal fanbase. It’s such a labour of love for all of us and we want to keep going to set to add to this incredible world created by Michelle Lovretta and her clever team of writers, production staff and crew.
