WWE Royal Rumble 17 Coverage: Cena Wins Title, Orton Wins Rumble

The main show for this year’s Royal Rumble was an enjoyable one with new WWE RAW Tag Team Champions being crowned in Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, as well as a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion in John Cena and a new Cruiserweight Champion in Neville, but the decision to have Roman Reigns eliminate The Undertaker and Randy Orton win, were awful decisions that ruined the event.

Unless AJ Styles gets the WWE World Heavyweight title back at Elimination Chamber, why would anyone want to see another Cena/Orton match?

Kickoff Matches:

WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, Mickie James and Natalya Neidhart vs. Becky Lynch, Naomi and Nikki Bella: A decent opener as there was plenty of back and forth, but Naomi got the win over Bliss with a Split-Legged Moonsault.

Two Referee Match: WWE RAW Tag Team Champions Sheamus and Cesaro vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: After one referee got taken out with a Brogue Kick, Gallows and Anderson took out Sheamus with a Magic Killer and Anderson got the win with the Rollup and a handful of tights.

Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks: A fun encounter with a lot of offense. Although Banks fought hard, Jax won with the Pop-Up Samoan Drop.

Main Show:

WWE RAW Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair vs, Bayley: Flair was bloodied from the mouth early on, but it didn’t stop her as after a Natural Selection on the apron she was able to get the win and remain undefeated in PPV matches.

Roman Reigns vs. WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens w/United States Champion Chris Jericho (suspended in a shark cage above the ring): Jericho paid dividends by giving Owens a pair of brass knuckles, but Braun Strowman decimated Reigns with a Chokeslam on the announce table and a Running Powerslam through a table, which allowed Owens to win.

Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann vs. Neville: Swann was in it until Neville hit the Superplex and finished off Neville with the Rings of Saturn.

John Cena vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles: These two traded strikes, submissions, duplexes and finishers in an awesome match. Cena pulled a ton of moves out of his bag of tricks from the Big Ending to the Figure Four and nearly put Styles away with a top rope Attitude Adjustment. Cena went for the maneuver again, but Styles hit another Styles Clash. However, Styles was unable to go for the pinfall and Cena hit two more AAs for the win.

Royal Rumble Match: Royal Rumble Match: Braun Strowman and Baron Corbin were the beasts early on, but once Lesnar came in he racked up three eliminations and a slew of German Suplexes and a pair of F5s. Goldberg entered at #28 and quickly Speared Lesnar and eliminated him. Goldberg then hit Zayn with a Jackhammer, but was beaten down by Orton and Wyatt but Goldberg Speared them, too. Undertaker entered at #29. After Taker eliminated Corbin, Goldberg eliminated Luke Harper, but Undertaker eliminated Goldberg. Roman Reigns was #30 and after some back and forth, Reigns eliminated The Undertaker.

Reigns, Orton, Wyatt and Jericho were the last four left and Reign quickly eliminated Jericho. After Reigns eliminated Wyatt, Orton ended up winning after he eliminated Reigns.
