Review Fix Exclusive: Jackie Venson Talks ‘Almost Free’ And More

Review Fix chats with Austin-based singer and guitarist Jackie Venson, who discusses her goals for 2017, inspirations and creative process. Detailing her origin in the industry as well,  Review Fix gets an inside look at the up and coming musician.

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

Jackie Venson: Piece by piece. I met the bass player, Alàn Uribe, at guitar center four years ago and he ended up coming to a gig of mine so I hired him after that. I worked with a different drummer, Gilbert Ayala, for a few years and then made the switch to my current drummer, Rodney Hyder, who had been playing with my Dad’s band for 20 years or more.

Review Fix: What makes your brand special?

Venson: I’m me and there ain’t no one else like me. There might be folks who do a similar thing but they don’t do it how I do it.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like? Has it changed since the last time we spoke?

Venson: I usually sit down to practice and just play and play until something comes out. Some nights not really anything comes out but no matter, I still got that practice in.

Review Fix: What’s your standout song on the new album How was it written?

Venson: Always Free is stand out for me because of the band and how we play the song together. It was written while I was jamming on some chords one night and decided I really wanted to have a rockin’ tune.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2017?

Venson: To go on tour once a month, every month, for the entire year. So far I have up until August taken care of.

Review Fix: What makes your latest album special?

Venson: It’s live and it captures a moment, one that won’t ever be captured again. It’s like an aural photograph

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Venson: I want them to come away with a renewed positive attitude, happiness and hope.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Venson: More music, more shows, more fun!

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like add?

Venson: Thank you for the opportunity and the feature, very much appreciated. Be sure to catch my new album Live at Strange Brew on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon or any other digital platform you may use.
