Zombie Tramp: Easter Special Review: Great

Try not to laugh at this idea: “Zombie Tramp” celebrates Easter at an Easter festival. That right there is about as silly an idea as it comes. The team behind the “Zombie Tramp” series (writers Shawn Gabborin, Dan Mendoza, Jason Martin and artist Celor) do manage to take this idea and make it awesomely hilarious in “Zombie Tramp: Easter Special.”

Janey Belle sees a flyer for an Easter celebration at a place called “Bunnyland” and decides to attend (dressed as a “Playboy” bunny no less.) Once she gets there, she finds out that the celebration has some evil intentions and she is right in the middle of it.

The idea of a festival having evil intents isn’t a new concept, but the writers do make it fun. The story flows like a “Loony Tunes” spoof of this type of story. It has a quick pace with plenty of funny parts and even the resolution is something Bugs Bunny would do if he can. One of the funniest running gags is Janey keeps getting hypnotized. For a zombie with magical powers, she’s sure easy to control and that just makes the entire hypnosis angle funnier.

The only real negative about the story is that the first panel basically spoils what’ll happen in the entire comic. On the surface, it may seem clever, but all it does is it just ruins the parody by bringing attention to it.

Celor’s art does an excellent job of making helping to make this story funny. The bright colors as well as coming up with as many goofy things for the characters to do is a joy to behold. The big scene near the end is just the icing on the cake in how it’s drawn and what happens in it.

“Zombie Tramp: Easter Special” is a hilarious poke at Easter celebrations done in what feels like a “Looney Tunes” style. What better way to celebrate Easter than to just have a ton of fun with it using “Zombie Tramp.”
