Is WWE Too Predictable?

Although a lot of people around the world have a tremendous amount of love for WWE wrestling, there are still some critics of the sport who argue that it is all a bit too predictable these days to still be entertaining. It is this topic that we will be taking a look at in more depth during this piece, as we examine whether the WWE still has its magic intact, or whether it has become predictable and stale.

While some fans of the WWE may feel that it is just those who do not really ‘get it’ who are claiming that it has become predictable and lost its edge, one of those who criticised it for precisely that was the US entrepreneur, pro wrestling booker and former amateur wrestler Eric Bischoff. The 61-year-old called it out for being so easy to predict that he had a strong idea of what would happen in each bout 30 seconds in advance. When people from within the world of professional wrestling are making such statements, it seems hard to argue with the notion that the WWE has a real problem in this respect. Another reason why people are claiming that predictability is such an issue for the WWE is the growing number of sites that have emerged that are focused on predicting PPV wrestling feuds, and match outcomes in the WWE. The sheer volume of these suggests to some that it has become far too simple to make correct predictions, and the stats for events like the Royal Rumble 2017 indicate that most of the matches had predictability levels in the 60 percent range.

However, the situation is not quite as simple as all that, as another thing we have witnessed is the rise in betting companies capitalising on the huge popularity of WWE wrestling by providing PPV betting odds. After all, if the outcomes of all of these matches were as easy to predict as some are claiming, it is unlikely that these companies would risk losing money by allowing people to gamble on them. Furthermore, this provides clear evidence that the sport remains enormously popular for all this supposed chronic predictability, and even online casino companies are exploiting the popularity of it to launch WWE-themed slots games. This does not seem like a sport that is in the doldrums because people know how the matches will end. Clearly there are some issues with regards to predictability, which has led to people suggesting possible remedies such as limiting the number of PPVs to just the big four and reducing the number of titles. The question is whether any of the mooted changes are actually brought into effect.

While it is hard to dispute that some of the matches in the WWE may be suffering from problems of predictability, there are also plenty of signs – including the emergence of wrestling sports betting and online casino wrestling slots games – that suggest that there is plenty of life left in it yet.
