Review Fix Exclusive: Charlotte Bash Talks ‘Leave’ And More

Review Fix chats with singer/songwriter Charlotte Bash who discusses her new track, “Leave.”

About Charlotte Bash:

Charlotte Bash finds a powerful confidence in goodbye on her breakout track, “Leave.” The lead single off her up-coming debut album, “Princess Game,” out on June 30th, it’s a powerful self-confidence fueled song that sets the tone for the record. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Bash spent much of her youth exploring the music scene, eventually graduating from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music where she trained as an opera singer. Her undeniable talents have given her the chance to grace the stage alongside artists like Sara Bareilles and Aaron Carter — in both national and international venues. Her new electro-pop inspired track, Leave” is full of sparkling, positive platitudes that exude tenacity and bold determination.

Review Fix: Why music?

Charlotte Bash: Music speaks to me like no other art form does, and I am so thankful that I’m able to make music. I just always knew that it would be one of the most important things in my life.

How was “Leave” written? I wrote Leave with Chris Price, who produced 4 of the songs on the Princess Game album. A little over a year ago, Chris came over for a writing session and I told him I wanted to “write a song about how you can still be a strong person and feel vulnerable.” We poured over the verses a bit more than the chorus, which came out very quickly. And the rest is history.

What other song on the album is really special to you?  All the songs are really special to me, or else they would not have made it on to the album. The reason I chose Leave as the lead single is because I felt that sonically and thematically, it is the most all-encompassing representation of the album as a whole.

Review Fix: How did school in Indiana prepare you for this?

Bash: Indiana University is an incredible music school, and I met some of the most talented people in the world there. Being in that kind of environment really inspires you to improve your craft everyday.

Review Fix: What are your goals in music?

Bash: I love creating new content and my #1 goal is to put myself in a position where that’s all I’m doing.

Review Fix: Who inspires you musically?

Bash: I look to different singers for different things and I am not genre specific at all…. But right now, I am listening to a lot of Sia and Ellie Goulding. I also do a lot of vocal coaching, and my students really inspire me musically.

Review Fix: How are you different?

Bash: I am a trained opera singer making an electro- pop album. Need I say more?

Review Fix: How do you want this album to affect people?

Bash: I hope that my music makes people happy. I want people to listen to a lyric and say, “wow, that really relates to what I’m going through right now.. I feel better!”.. and of course, dance and have fun.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Bash: Hopefully a LOT of shows! I’m also collaborating on new material with a ton of incredibly talented individuals.. but for more details on that, you’ll just have to wait and see!
