Action Lab: Dog of Wonder #8 Review: Swan Song

If there can be a League of Assassins or a Justice League, why can’t there be a league of animals? It seems an important member of the team a dog Percy, code name Action Lab is missing. While taking care of one problem another one pops up. And the human Clancy seems to be the center of it. ‘Dog of Wonder’ is a fun story. It gives the back story of Percy and how he became a super canine. It also tells the story of his human Violet who’s a superhero in her own right.

You’re going to fall in love with Percy. As a puppy he’s sent into the future with Violet by her parents to save her. Born sickly, there was no way of knowing if the baby would survive. As the story unfolds you see in each panel the Labrador retriever and his mistress grow strong and capable. Percy is also loyal and smart. He wants to do well in the world. But Clancy, who happens to be human sees him as an adversary. The thing is if a dog named Toby is trying to explain that you should be teaming up instead of chasing Percy, wouldn’t you at least consider believing him? After all you’re having a serious conversation with a dog about another crime-fighting dog, who has traveled through time. If he could suspend enough belief to have this talk, then Clancy should consider teaming up with Percy instead of hunting him down, like some average dog. Things, however, seem to be out of Clancy’s control. He’s having a days of future past moment and he doesn’t realize it. He looks a bit god smacked at all the things he’s going to do – not just for humans but for all beings who live. The LTL will be the most important thing he’s done. At the moment the main focus is getting Percy back and there’s some science involved. Not the type that makes you want to sleep. Instead it makes you think, could time travel be possible? And if you’re traveling back in time do you age chronologically? Is your life chronological? Meanwhile Percy is struggling to stay alive. With his animal league comrades, they attempt to outwit a robot who uses electricity like a gun.

Scott Fogg and Reilly Leeds have made something special. If you’re a dog lover you’ll want to see this comic continue. You know how smart your dog is. He’d pull you out of a burning building. It’s also been documented that dogs can detect some illnesses. Just imagine a team of animals, dogs specifically who can do extraordinary things. Percy is that type of dog and it would have been amazing to see further adventures of him and his time traveling league. Unfortunately this is the last issue. You may be wondering, where was this comic book all this time? The one good thing about the time we live in now is that you can get the previous issues and relive the adventures of the ‘Action Lab: Dog of Wonder.’
