Energy Alchemist: Reminder EP Review: Surprisingly Deep

Although just a three-song EP, Energy Alchemist’s Reminder EP is a cool trio of tracks that thrives mainly because of solid musical arrangements that get the blood pumping.

While there’s an element of electronica in the tunes, bassist Erik Koski, drummer Matt Heath and guitarist Julian Sterling work hard on all three tracks. It’s sweat-inducing rock that’s perfect to work out to. If you wake up late and need a good kick to get back on track, this is a great EP to have on in the background. Although vocalist (and guitarist) Bill Hankins isn’t the most captivating singer, the vocal harmony and dueling guitars at times (especially in “Flush) soar and makes these tracks special. This is a perfect example of a band that knows how to execute their tone and purpose. They are not the Rolling Stones and they don’t try to be. They just tell imaginative stories, with a ton of moving parts that never clash. It’s all flow and serene.

Powered by a keen sense of style and polish, Energy Alchemist is able to control their own chaos through three different and equally melodic tracks. Again, you’re not getting “Paint It Black” here, but there is serious canvas being covered.
