Review Fix Exclusive: Crypitus’ Dougles Friend and Zach Patch Talk Exhibit 1: Prelude to the Dead World

Review Fix chats with Crypitus’ Dougles Friend and Zach Patch, who discuss their creative process, goals and demo, Exhibit 1: Prelude to the Dead World.

Review Fix: How did the band get together?

Dougles Friend: Meet and Pete ended up becoming roommates in early 2016, I had a lot going on in my life so I found myself playing music in the basement a ton. Pete listened in and picked up on some of my tunes. After he learned a good number of them we were on the hunt of a drummer. We mistook Zach for someone else online hit him up and now here we are.

Zach Patch: I was desperately searching the internet for local musicians to jam with and Pete and Doug were the first clowns to respond. The rest is history.

Review Fix: What’s your creative process like?

Friend: The creative process for me has always been wicked organic. With the right place at the right time comes the rest music!

Patch: Doug says most of my creative processes need to remain a secret to the general public. As far as writing goes, I just listen to the guitar parts and think, what can I do here that’ll make this super interesting?

Review Fix: What’s your standout song? How was it written?

Friend: I think a standout song of ours is our instrumental “Symphony #1” which is actually the first metal song I wrote when I was 15! It’s full of a variety of hard hitting and soft riffs but punchy enough to stick in your head!

Patch: I really don’t think we have a stand out song. We do our best to make everything we write stand out as extremely interesting and groovy as we can muster.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2017?

Friend: Right now we have some wicked obtainable goals like release our demo, which is being mastered currently, play a bunch of shows, which have a might packed summer and slow down towards the end of the year to work on more song writing.

Patch: My goal in 2017 is to get myself where I need to be to go on tour across America next year. I have a lot of personal growth and suffering to do before I can make that happen.

Review Fix: How do you want your music to affect people?

Friend: I want people to realize a few things when they are listening. The first being that with hard work you can bring definition to your message and secondly I want to shed light on the dark evils of the modern world so people can make conscious decisions on how to make it better.

Patch: I want  anyone that listens to Crypitus to react with a WOAH and just lose their shit. Also I want to find someone that has a clown phobia at a show. That’ll be hysterical.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Friend: Next for us is a summer of invading New England with our HomeGrown Vermont Metal Music! And remember to check out our Facebook and Bandcamp page for the release of our demo “Exhibit 1: Prelude to the Dead World.”

Crypitus goes cross country, then, Pinky, we take over the world!
