WWE RAW Coverage: Steel Cage Mayhem or Sad Attempt at Buzz?

One of the biggest cards of the year and some solid promo from John Cena couldn’t save this week’s RAW. Boring and lacking sizzle, nothing occurred that changed the face of the WWE. From Cena’s promo to the Steel Cage match between Braun Strowman and The Big Show- it was all done in an effort to try and make a moment instead of having one happen organically. These guys don’t have any real heat. And to have Show jump off the top rope in an effort to make the match was admirable for him, but it goes to show you that the crowd just doesn’t pop anymore either. Five years ago, they would have gone insane. The days of the Yes Movement, of Pipe Bombs, or even Fandangoing are long over. This entire show needs a reboot.

Matches:

John Cena vs. Jason Jordan: Cena got the win with the Attitude Adjustment out of nowhere, but Jordan pushed him to the limit and showed that he can hold his own with a legend. After the match, Cena had to deal with Roman Reigns. Well, at least on the mic. Reigns proclaimed that Cena didn’t want to fight him. Cena retailed by saying Reigns hasn’t earned anyone’s respect yet.

Sheamus and Cesaro vs. Heath Slater and Rhyno: A decent tag match and one that Sheamus won for his team with a Brogue Kick on Rhyno. With the WWE RAW Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins at the commentary booth, it’s obvious this feud is just getting started.

Intercontinental Champion The Mis w/Maryse, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas vs. Jeff Hardy w/Matt Hardy: An excellent match with plenty of drama. After Dallas, Axel and Matt got thrown out, The Miz only had Maryse by his side. Lucky, for him, she paid dividends. After she let her husband know Jeff Hardy was gearing up for the Senton Bomb, Miz moved out of the way and won with the Skull-Crushing Finale.

Tony Nese, Drew Gulak and Noam Dar vs. Enzo Amore, Gran Metalik and Cedric Alexander: Lots of spots and Amore sold a ton. Amore got the win with Eat Defeat, but also had his fingers in Gulak’s eyes behind the referee’s back.

Sasha Banks and WWE RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax and Emma: Jax did all the heavy lifting and after a blind tag by Emma, Jax hit the Leg Drop to finish off Banks, but Emma took the pinfall. After the match, Jax nailed Emma with the Samoan Drop.

WWE RAW Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson: Interference from Sheamus and Cesaro backfired as Rollins was able to Rollup Anderson. After the match, Gallows and Anderson kicked Cesaro and Sheamus out of the ring, but then both teams ended up beating on one another, but Sheamus and Cesaro got the last laugh.

Cage Match: The Big Show vs. Braun Strowman: Show held his own and even delivered a Top Rope Elbow that got the biggest pop of the night. Strowman eventually Superplexed Show again, but with the ring double-reinforced, it wasn’t as sexy. Strowman then hit the Running Powerslam for the win. After the match. Strowman talked trash and then Powerslammed Show through the Steel Cage.
