Review Fix Exclusive: Wrestlers’ Lab’s Chris Ruiz Talks Future Vision And More

Review Fix chats with Wrestlers’ Lab’s Chris Ruiz who discusses the promotion’s upcoming show on Dec 16 with Legacy Wrestling, Future Vision. Detailing the card and his goals for the promotion, Ruiz lets us know why this is a special indie wrestling event.

Review Fix: What inspired this event?

Chris Ruiz: As cheesy and predictable as this answer may be, it’s inspired by the future of independent wrestling. The Lab has been wanting to work with Legacy Wrestling for a while now, because we’re very much on the same wavelength. Mike Bloomer (their owner) understands and appreciates what we’re all about. We’re very grateful to him for giving us this chance to not only come into his territory, but to introduce a batch of fresh competitors that fans in the area aren’t familiar with. He trusts us and our guys, and we’re going to give the fans one hell of a show.

Review Fix: What’s the card look like so far?

Ruiz: We’ve got a huge main event between ‘The Hitman for Hire’ Mr. Grim and ‘The Young Lion’ Tyler Matrix. Grim, as you know, is our first and current Nucleus Champion, but Matrix believes that he was robbed in that inaugural championship match. So, those two are gonna have the main event slot to settle their score. Grim also upped the ante by putting his # 1 Contendership for the Legacy Championship on the line, so the bout has major implications for both companies. Either Wheeler Yuta, Joseph Black, or Adrian Armour will be keeping a extra close eye on that match, because those three guys are competing in a triple threat to determine the # 1 Contender for the Nucleus Championship. Also, fans will be treated to a first-time-ever encounter between ‘The Southern Psycho’ Mance Warner and Mr. Claxton, which is interesting because you have a guy who’s making a name for himself in the hardcore/deathmatch scene going up against the guy who just recently denounced his ultraviolent past. Legacy has a huge debut with The Ugly Ducklings coming in to challenge their Tag Team Champions, The Wildcardz. Also, ‘The Dirty Daddy’ Chris Dickinson will be in action. Of all people, The SANDMAN is making an appearance. We have a six-man tag and a scramble that are both going to be a blast. Legacy’s Women’s Championship will be on the line as Brittany Blake defends against Roni Nicole. Trever Aeon and Chris Crunkk are going to beat the hell out of each other. We just added Anthony Henry to the mix too, so there’s just so much to look forward to.

Review Fix: What match do you think is going to surprise people the most?

Ruiz: I would have to say the six-man tag match. On one side, we have ‘Hippy’ Dicky Moon, Moonshine McCreedy and Sully Banger; who’ve all made multiple appearances for The Lab. On the other, you have ‘Kinetic’ Cole Radrick, ‘Spitfire’ Sage Phillips, and Johnathan Wolf; who are all making their debuts. Is it a welcoming party? Is it a hostile takeover? It’s a bit of both. We make it a point to bring in guys that people may not have heard of, so we expect “Huh?” or “O…k.” We thrive on it, actually. Trust me when I tell you, those people are going to care about these six guys when this match is all said and done.

Review Fix: How do you want this event to be remembered?

Ruiz: As a night where wrestling fans were so glad to be exposed to unfamiliar faces, and got hooked on both Legacy Wrestling and Wrestlers’ Laboratory if they weren’t already.

Review Fix: What are your goals for 2018?

Ruiz: More importantly than goals, we’ve got PLANS. I don’t want to say much more than that. As always, though, our goal is to continue having fun doing this, raising the bar, and helping more new faces reach more new territories. We’re gonna open eyes.

Review Fix: What do you think you have to do to accomplish all of these goals?

Ruiz: Again with the cheesiness, but we just have to keep being true to ourselves. We do what we can with what we have. We don’t take advantage of people. We don’t play politics. We work with good people, and we do our best to put out great content. That’s it.

Review Fix: How do you feel about the direction of the brand?

Ruiz: I couldn’t be happier with it. We have so many exciting things coming up, and so many superb talents who want to be a part of it.

Review Fix: What’s next?

Ruiz: Next stop after Future Vision is being back with our friends at Battle Club Pro on March 3rd. Pumped for that.

Review Fix: Anything else you’d like to add?

Ruiz: As always, we’d just like to thank you for the press. We appreciate the platform to toot our own horn a bit, but also to get more eyes on the incredible talent that we’ve got coming through our curtain and the curtain of the companies we’re fortunate enough to be working with.
