Senor Chang’s Sad Inner Tiger

Webisode Commentary

“Senor Tigre, Destroyer of Women, back from another recent sexual conquest,” inquires Starburns El Star Prince (Dino Stamatopoulos) of the character played by his Spanish professor, Senor Chang (Ken Jeong) before the absurd concoction that is Abed (Danny Pudi) and Starburns’ second attempt at their assignment continues.

Star Prince is still nursing a broken heart and El Tigre takes every opportunity to tease him about it. At a soiree thrown by the Spanish El Diablo for his 15-year-old girlfriend (the age of consent in Spain is 13, apparently, according to Senor Chang), Star Prince’s ex-wife returns – plastered out of her mind – and further enabled by El Tigre until the entire video becomes a giant metaphor for Senor Chang’s psychological approach to women.

It’s certainly more abstract than the first part, but even in those four minutes it contained a healthy dose of disarming laughter, proving that “Community” is as unpretentious as it is funny.

And based on the steady streak since the winter hiatus, the laughs are expected to keep coming.

I spent a good decade dabbling in creating metaphysically-inclined narrative fiction and a mercifully short stream of lackluster poetry. A seasoned connoisseur of college majors, I discovered journalism only recently through a mock review for my mock editor, though my respect for the field is hardly laughable. I eventually plan to teach philosophy at a university and write in my free time while traveling the world, scaling mountains and finding other, more creative ways to stimulate adrenaline. Travel journalism, incidentally, would be a dream profession. Potential employers? Feel free to ruthlessly steal me away from the site. I’ll put that overexposed Miss Brown to shame.
