That’s a Nasty Rash

Episode Commentary: “Third Base or The Rash”

At the end of this episode of “Hung,” it appears that the Drecker family is about to reunite.

Talk about irony.

However, with Tanya running away scared from Francine and Mike once she’s spotted on the ball field and Ronnie and Jessica’s relationship on the rocks, things are bound to heat up- and soon. With all of these intangibles, “Hung” continues to challenge its audience and keep them in suspense as the second season begins to come to a close.

The fact that there was little attention paid to Ray and any of his clients this week [aside from one of the most unusual instances of a rotator-cuff tear in the history of man] as well goes to show that “Hung” doesn’t need steamy sex scenes to be entertaining- the drama is that sound, setting the scene for what has to be some sultry situations over the last few episodes.

But enough about the skin, there are bigger questions here.

How exactly is Tanya supposed to explain to Mike, a person she doesn’t know, that he’s been a hooker the entire time he thought he was dating Francine? More importantly, how will it affect his relationship with Ray? Speaking of Ray, are him and Ronnie gearing up for a war over the heart of Jessica? Will this mean his hooking days are over?

What about Damon and Darby as well? They haven’t been getting along with either of their parents as of late, could there be the beginning of something different for these characters if their parents get back together? What does the future have in store for them?

For a half-hour show, there’s so much going on- quite a stark contrast from parts of the first season, which felt flat and disconnected, that it almost feels like a different show entirely. While it’s never been laugh out-loud funny, “Hung” continues to provide quality drama that is deep, driven and full of debauchery and infidelity.

The best part is, it looks like the show has even more in store for its viewers before the season is finished.
