WWE Monday Night RAW Coverage: More Nonsense

You’d think with all the storyline developments over the past few weeks that Raw could find a way to be remotely entertaining.

Not the case.

This week’s episode was a complete snoozer.

If bland matches, bad promos and blatant product placement weren’t enough, the WWE continues to tarnish the legacy of their most coveted championship. While the roar CM Punk got was evidence that they are doing some things right and a match between these two again would draw money, seeing two people in the ring with the same title is a joke. All in all, it’s at the point now that the WWE trades titles more often than WCW did towards the end of their run.

It’s a shame that even Punk’s appearance on the show can’t bring RAW past the mediocre.

The bottom line is simple: they need help creatively and must push a better product in the ring.

Matches:

The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio for the WWE Title: A match that aside from a seated slingshot powerbomb from The Miz, was incredibly routine. The pace was lackluster and despite the fact that the WWE title was on the line, both competitors brought nothing new to the table. After Mysterio took a beating for 15 minutes, he hit the 619 and a top rope splash on The Miz to win the title. Snore. Things could have gotten interesting as Alberto Del Rio came to the ring to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but changed his mind after Mysterio proved to be capable of competing, in spite of just finishing his match.

Evan Bourne vs. Dolph Ziggler: A five-minute match that saw Ziggler hit the zig-zag on Bourne before he put him in the sleeper for the submission victory. Again, like the first match, it was incredibly flaccid. Even worse, Ziggler is the United States champ and isn’t involved in a feud of any kind. At this point, the US title means nothing.

Maryse and Melina vs. Kelly Kelly and Eve: Another quick match that saw Kelly Kelly defeat Melina with a rocker dropper. Again, it was another routine and average contest.

Michael Cole vs. Zack Ryder: Ryder won in less than a minute after he hit the Rough-Ryder leg lariat.

Kofi Kingston vs. Alberto Del Rio: Del Rio won with the cross-arm breaker after a decent back and forth outing. At least these two tried to tell a story. The only problem is both of them don’t speak enough on the microphone for anyone to get attached to them and care about an angle they’re involved in.

Rey Mysterio vs. John Cena for the WWE Title:
The first ten minutes of this match were absolute fodder. However, once Mysterio latched on the STF on Cena, the action picked up. Even though Cena nearly crippled Mysterio with a botched powerbomb, the near pin-falls and high-impact offense made up for it. When it was all over, Cena hit the attitude adjustment for the win to become the new champ.
