WWE Monday Night RAW Coverage: PPV Main Event Prep

With both CM Punk and John Cena wrestling on RAW last night and a great encounter between Kofi Kingston and The Miz, the show was definitely better than it has been over the past few weeks.

On top of that, the contract signing shoot promo between Punk and Cena continued to build heat for what should be an incredible pay per view bout this Sunday.

But what about the rest of the Summerslam card?

At this point, there’s no Tag Team or United States Heavyweight title match booked and Rey Mysterio, The Miz and Kofi Kingston have yet to be signed for a match either. For a RAW that was supposed to set the scene for Summerslam, this RAW didn’t do much of anything but pay attention to Cena and Punk.

So while it was a solid show, Summerslam, at this point, is going to have a pretty slim card.

Matches:

John Cena vs. Jack Swagger:
A tune-up match for Cena that saw Swagger get in some early offense before Cena hit his usual assortment of moves before eventually delivering the Attitude Adjustment for the win.

The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston:
WWE COO Triple H ordered this match after Miz took out Rey Mysterio before their scheduled bout. Boy, was it a solid one. Both of these guys worked hard and delivered a plethora of high-impact offense, with plenty of near falls. At this point, Kingston continues to prove he is worthy of a bigger spot on RAW, but not with this current boy-scout gimmick. In spite of Kingston’s excellent work here however, The Miz was too much for him, as he hit his Skull-Crushing Finale finisher for the win. Nevertheless, it was the best match on RAW in weeks.

Alberto Del Rio vs. CM Punk:
A quick match, which saw a nice amount of offense from both combatants. However, like Cena’s encounter, Punk was able to turn it around and hit his Go To Sleep finisher for the win.

Beth Phoenix vs. Eve Torrez: A quality divas match that saw Phoenix dominate and hit the Glam Slam for the win.

Alex Riley vs. United States Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler w/ Vicki Guerrero:
A waste of match that ended in a DQ after Guerrero slapped Riley. This doesn’t even build heat for an eventual Ziggler/Riley encounter either, as more attention was paid to Guerrero walking out on Ziggler.

John Morrison vs. R-Truth: These two have such excellent chemistry together. This match wasn’t their best, but between R-Truth’s devastating jumping complete shot finisher and Morrison’s high impact selling and his use of a flipping urinage suplex, this was easily the most technically sound contest of the night.
