‘Bloc Party is Still Bloc Party’

Don’t worry, Bloc Party fans—according to the band’s official blog, Kele Okereke is apparently still in the group, despite him thinking he may have been fired.

In an interview with NME, guitarist Russell Lissack did say that they are looking to make music while Okereke is doing his solo thing, but there are no hard feelings between them.

“It’s not really a secret because Kele’s been pretty busy doing solo stuff,” Lissack said, “and it looks like he’s going to be doing that a bit longer. The other three of us wanted to meet up and make music. We were talking about just doing an instrumental thing, but now we might get a singer as well, to properly put some music out and play some shows.”

But while they’re considering auditioning a new vocalist, it doesn’t seem as though Okereke will be outright replaced.

“I haven’t spoken to Kele for a couple of months,” Lissack added, “I guess since the festivals when I was doing stuff with Ash. But there’s no bad vibes.”

To further support the fact that Bloc Party still loves their singer, they also posted a cartoon image of them as a band, Kele in tow, with the phrase, “See you soon,” below it.

Of course, Kele is still confused.

“I don’t know what to make of this,” he posted on his blog. “A big part of me is laughing HARD at all of this but another part of me is all like WTF?”

“I’m quite curious as to what a Bloc Party audition would be like?” he continued. “I wonder if they would let me sit on the panel so I could be a judge Tyra Banks style?”

Um, Kele, don’t you think maybe they’d call it something other than Bloc Party if they’re hell-bent on making music without you? Seems like they respect you enough to ensure you that they haven’t fired you—why don’t you just talk to them already and stop playing games over NME and the internet?

Who wants to bet Kele still hasn’t contacted any of them since this mess? Come on, dude—man up.
