Review Fix Exclusive: Audio Interview with Dick Wagner

Dick Wagner is a guitar “gunslinger” in the truest sense of the word. From his early bands the Bossmen, The Frost and Ursa Major to his being a member of Alice Cooper and Lou Reed’s most dynamic bands (along with Steve Hunter), he has always played riffs, chords or solos that will forever be etched in our collective musical memory banks. If that isn’t enough, Wagner is a talented songwriter who penned “Only Women Bleed,” “I Never Cry” (two of Alice Cooper’ biggest hits) and “Just as I Am (Air Supply) which points to his versatility. Over the course of his career, he’s played on albums the likes of Kiss’ “Destroyer” and Aerosmith’s “Get Your Wings.” This virtuosic guitar ace has always been sought after to add just the right element to a song with his searing, yet melodic lead runs and yeoman-like rhythm guitar work. His new book “Not Only Women Bleed” is a must read (available as an E-book) if you want to know what it’s like to be part of rock and roll history. Reviewfix.com recently spoke to Wagner via telephone and covered his embryonic days and early influences, the legendary Grande Ballroom (a famous Detroit venue),guitar heroics, his top five classic rock guitarist list, songwriting and much more.
