Review Fix Exclusive: Q & A With ‘Zombies Ruined My Day’ Designer Raul Mellado

Review Fix chats with “Zombies Ruined My Day” Designer Raul Mellado via e-mail to discuss his title, it’s development and the chances of a sequel.

An homage to classic 2D platformers and shooters, “Zombies Ruined My Day” is one of the most enjoyable games on the Xbox Live Indie Game Channel.

Review Fix: How long did it take to design “Zombies Ruined My Day”?

Raul Mellado: Almost a year.

Review Fix: What was the development process like?

Mellado: The development process was pretty straight forward. The hardest parts were the design of each level and balancing the zombie waves.

Review Fix: What was the inspiration for it?

Mellado: This one is easy. I love zombie games. I really enjoyed playing “Plants vs Zombies.” So I said to myself, let’s make a game with guns, explosions, blood and cute zombies.

Review Fix: If you could change one thing about the game, what would it be. Why?

Mellado: The grenade throwing implementation. I know many people did not like it.

Review Fix: What’s your favorite part of the game?

Mellado: This a hard question to answer. I have spent much time in the development of this game taking care of every detail. So for me is difficult to choose just one part. Although I have to confess that I love punk zombies.

Review Fix: What would you say to someone who hasn’t played it in order to entice them to purchase it?

Mellado: Weapons, zombies, blood, what more could you want? I think this game is easy to recommend to anyone. Give it a try.

Review Fix: The game has this great graphical look. Are there any hopes on making it a cartoon or a comic book one day?

Mellado: The truth is that I had not thought about it, it’s a possibility.

Review Fix: Are there any hopes for a sequel?

Mellado: You can bet on it.

Review Fix: Is Mancebo games working on any other title you’d like to tell us about?

Mellado: Can’t tell you anything at this moment.

Review Fix: Do you have any advice to anyone who is thinking about making an Indie game on the 360?

Mellado: Make an Indie game because you love making games. For indie developers, I think that money should not be a priority.
