Preview Fix: Regina Spektor’s ‘What We Saw From the Cheap Seats’

Release Date: May 29

For a while there, back in the pre-Gaga era, Regina Spektor looked as if she might have been the talented unique musical act out there. With a whole lot of talent mixed with a hint of quirky charm in her music and her music videos, back in ’06 things looked delightfully bright for this once duchess of indie music. That year her fourth album, “Begin To Hope,” which featured the single “Fidelity” catapulted her to the mainstream as the album went on to sell over six hundred thousand albums in the United States and one million worldwide. Spektor followed up one Gold album with another three years later with her fifth feature album, “Far.”

“What We Saw from the Cheap Seats,” the latest album from Spektor scheduled to be released May 29th is intriguing. With the field for female talents crowded, even in the indie-scene where the likes of St. Vincent and Tuneyards still have hipsters by their bowties, this album will have to dazzle for this spectacular songbird to claim a gigabyte of space on anyone’s library.

Luckily, it seems as if she’s well aware of the competition as her first single from the new album, “All The Rowboats,” brings the creativity, talent, and enough drama to put up a fight against Florence and any of her machines.
